| Located in the North Cascades, the Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker areas average 647 inches of snow a year, almost 54 feet! With that much snow, the hiking trails and even the upper stretches of the Mt. Baker Highway often are inaccessible until late July or sometimes even August. It's a long wait for things to thaw out and the backcountry to open up. This is a sunset shot taken during a backpacking trip in late September. |
