Located a short distance from Las Vegas, Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada's oldest state park. The Atlatl Rock petroglyphs are right off the main road. This display, however, is missed by most tourists as it some ways away from the main display. The atlatl is a notched stick used to throw primitive spears and was a predecessor to the bow and arrow.
